14 Quick Ideas For Tasty Sandwiches

1. Bacon and bean bap
Place grilled bacon in a bap with cottage cheese mixed with cooked, chopped green or broad beans.

2. Cold pork and coleslaw
Wholemeal bread filled with cold pork, coleslaw and apple sauce.

3. Cream cheese and date
Sandwich together a layer of cream cheese and chopped, stoned dates.

4. Sardine and tomato sandwich
Mash a tin of sardines in tomato sauce together with lemon rind and add sliced tomato.

5. Crunchy bean, curd and nut
Spread bread with curd cheese, sprinkle over salted peanuts and add a layer of beansprouts before topping with second piece of bread.

6. Peanut butter and jam
Sandwich with a layer of peanut butter and a layer of raspberry jam.

7. Sausage and pickle
Spread a slice of bread with sweet pickle before rolling up around a cooked sausage.

8. Bacon, cheese and cranberry
Sandwich together cooked, cold bacon and chopped watercress, topped with cheddar cheese and cranberry sauce.

9. Edam, ginger and apple
Sandwich together a good layer of edam cheese, topped with apple slices tossed in ginger marmalade.

10. Cod's roe, cucumber and capers double-decker sandwich
Place a layer of cod's roe pate or tuna fish on bread and sprinkle with a few capers. Cover with bread, spread that with tomato ketchup and sliced cucumber, then top with more bread.

11. Cress Tubs
Cut out thick sliced brown bread with 1 inch (2.5cm) cutter and pipe on circles of cheese, flavoured and coloured with marmite. Tuck in sprigs of cress and place in paper cake cases.

12. Catherine Wheels
Cut crusts off two thin slices of white bread and spread both thickly with cheese mixed with tomato puree. Set end to end on foil or cling film and roll up together like a Swiss Roll. Wrap firmly, chill and cut each across into six pinwheels.

13. Shining stars
Spread bread with cheese spread, cut out using star cutter and sprinkle with multi-coloured hundreds and thousands.

14. Neapolitan sandwiches
Flavour and colour some cream cheese with tomato puree and some with chopped parsley or cress and use to spread the two brown slices thickly with one filling and the white with the other, using the white slice to sandwich in the centre of the brown ones. Chill well, cut off crusts and cut into eight small brick shapes.
